Racism and hostility towards foreigners are phenomena of a society as a whole. A great deal of detailed information is required as a kick start against prejudice, discrimination, racism, right wing extremism and ethnocentrism. In addition the origins and causes of these problems are just as important as their concrete manifestations.
The Democratic Youth Associations of the Federal Republic of Germany have decided to found a project in the interest of a joint and decided action to oppose racist tendencies: They founded at the beginning of 1990 the "Centre for information, documentation and action against hostility towards foreigners and towards a multicultural future" (IDA), now named "Centre for Information and documentation of work against racism". Amongst the to date 28 members are Members of the German Federal Youth Ring, the German Sporting Youth, the Ring for Political Youth and Organisations of young people with migration background.
IDA is mainly supported by the Federal Ministry for family, seniors, women and youth. IDA can be supported through Sponsor Membership or donations.
IDA is specialized in the following working areas: racism, right wing extremism, intercultural perspectives and migration processes in their relation to young people with and without migration background in Germany. One of IDA's tasks is the support of the intercultural opening of established youth organizations and the empowerment of Organizations of young migrants.

IDA is listed in the official register of charities and associations (number 7167) by the Duesseldorf district court. It incorporates 28 youth groups as members. Individual people can be taken on as support members. The Duesseldorf Finance Office-Sud awarded IDA with the status of a charitable organization (tax number 106/5748/1122). This means that any donations will not be taxed and that the court can impose the payment of charges in favour of IDA.
